5-MTHF, provided as Quatrefolic®, is the most biologically active form of the water-soluble B vitamin, folic acid. This form is preferable because there are multiple factors that can affect the conversion or prevent the absorption of folic acid. Data indicates that supplementing with 5-MTHF increases folate in the bloodstream more effectively than folic acid.
